About

Dr. Javan Nation is a pediatric otolaryngologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an assistant professor of pediatric otolaryngology in the UC San Diego Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Nation started his college education as an oboe performance major at La Sierra University. He then switched to biology/pre-med and graduated from Pacific Union College. After earning his medical degree at Loma Linda University, he went on to complete his residency at Wayne State University in Michigan. After an additional year of fellowship training at Rady Children's, he was invited to join the Otolaryngology Division.

Although Dr. Nation enjoys all aspects of clinical pediatric otolaryngology, he has a special interest in pediatric sleep apnea surgery. His research focuses on sleep surgery, and he is building a special niche in that area. He serves on the American Academy of Otolaryngology sleep disorders committee. After visiting a number of multidisciplinary sleep clinics at leading universities around the country, Dr. Nation co-founded the first multidisciplinary complex sleep apnea clinic at Rady Children's. He also has a clinical interest in pediatric skull base surgery and has worked closely with the Rady Children's Neurosurgery Division on endoscopic resection of skull base and sinonasal tumors.
