About
Dr. Simhan is a reconstructive urologist who specializes in the surgical restoration of urologic organs, including the kidneys, ureter, bladder, urethra, and penis. His interest in reconstructive urology stems from a desire to meaningfully improve patients’ quality of life. Many of the patients he treats experience complications or functional challenges related to prior cancer treatments. While the primary goal of cancer treatment is often to extend life expectancy, Dr. Simhan focuses specifically on optimizing patients’ quality of life and restoring function whenever possible. A significant portion of his practice also involves caring for patients with benign, non-cancerous reconstructive conditions. Although many urologic procedures for benign conditions are successful, some patients experience unsuccessful outcomes and seek his expertise for second opinions and complex reconstructive care. Dr. Simhan considers it a privilege to work closely with these patients to develop individualized surgical plans and restore both function and confidence following prior unsuccessful treatments.
Throughout his career, Dr. Simhan has remained actively involved in medical research and serves as a reviewer for many of the leading urology journals. His academic work focuses on urinary reconstruction, urologic prosthetics, and urologic injury, and he has contributed to several hundred publications and abstracts throughout his career. He has also been invited to lecture regionally, nationally, and internationally on topics related to reconstructive urology and is an active member of numerous international reconstructive urology organizations. Dr. Simhan believes that maintaining an active role in research allows him to provide patients with the most current and advanced treatment options available in reconstructive urology.
