About

Dr. Ziad Ali is a board-certified interventional and structural cardiologist and internationally recognized expert in complex high-risk indicated percutaneous coronary interventions (CHIP), including the treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTO). Based at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, New York, Dr. Ali serves as Director of the DeMatteis Cardiovascular Institute, Director of Investigational Interventional Cardiology, and Director of the Cardio-Renal Program. He is also Director of the Angiographic Core Laboratory at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. His research focuses on advanced imaging and physiology technologies to optimize stent implantation and reduce kidney injury by minimizing or eliminating the use of contrast dye. Dr. Ali developed the Resting Full-Cycle Ratio (RFR; Abbott, Santa Clara, CA), a physiologic index used to guide stent placement, and was instrumental in the development of intravascular lithotripsy (Shockwave Medical, Santa Clara, CA), which adapts kidney stone–breaking technology to treat calcified coronary arteries. He pioneered ultra–low contrast and contrast-free angiography techniques to safely perform coronary and vascular interventions in patients with advanced kidney disease. Supported continuously by the National Institutes of Health for over a decade, Dr. Ali has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and received investigator awards from leading international cardiovascular societies. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple major journals, regularly reviews for over 20 others, contributes to American College of Cardiology curricula, and acts as Global Principal Investigator for numerous multicenter randomized trials.
