Dr. Irina (Era) Kryzhanovskaya is an internist providing primary care to adult patients. She has a special interest in treating substance use disorders and addiction, and focuses as well on ensuring the safe and effective prescription of controlled substances in the clinic.
Kryzhanovskaya's research interests include increasing access to buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder. She is also studying how to improve retention of residents in primary care careers by providing role models and mentoring.
Kryzhanovskaya earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia. While completing a residency in internal medicine at UCSF, she served as chief resident at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
Kryzhanovskaya chairs UCSF's controlled substance review committee and serves as liaison for the clinical training program in internal medicine at UCSF's Parnassus campus. She is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine and American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Kryzhanovskaya was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Her family moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, when she was 5 years old. She came to the West Coast to pursue her residency at UCSF.
