About

Dr. Una Makris is a rheumatologist, geriatric researcher, and clinician-investigator at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the North Texas VA Health Care System. Inspired early in her career by mentors in geriatrics and aging research, she pursued training in both rheumatology and geriatric medicine, completing her fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. Her research career has evolved from epidemiologic studies of aging to developing behavioral interventions aimed at improving health outcomes for older adults, particularly those with complex medical and psychosocial needs.

Dr. Makris specializes in caring for older veterans with musculoskeletal pain, depression, and multiple chronic conditions. Her work focuses on creating patient-centered strategies that empower older adults to manage pain and improve quality of life, while advancing innovative models of care through the VA healthcare system. A dedicated mentor and advocate for interdisciplinary aging research, Dr. Makris is committed to fostering collaboration across medical specialties and translating research findings into practical solutions that improve care for older adults nationwide.
