Dr. Mel Herbert is internationally recognized as an entrepreneurial pioneer, philanthropist, speaker, and award-winning educator in Emergency Medicine. Oh and, just another average guy!
Australia-born,trained in the United States and Australia, Dr. Mel Hebert founded EM:RAP (Emergency Medicine: Reviews and Perspectives) providing quality and engaging, educational content for emergency care providers over the past 20+ years.
Mel’s initiatives are founded on beliefs that access to emergency care and EM education should be accessible by all. This paved the way for the establishment of his non-profit initiative called EM:RAP GO, which helps bring emergency medical education to underserved communities around the globe.
Alongside propelling advancements in EM services, Mel strongly believes in the power of audio and visual communications to help others learn in new and entertaining ways. These fundamentals are critical in his approach to creating content that helps educate and is a force multiplying in health care.
Above all, Mel’s fundamental operating belief is he is just an average guy. He believes all he and the team has accomplished, and has yet to accomplish, can be achieved by anyone regardless of their upbringing and circumstances. He is living proof of it! He is steadfast in sharing this message, most notably through his debut book now available for purchase world-wide, “The Extraordinary Power of Being Average.” All proceeds from this book go towards the non-profit, EMRAP:GO.
Most recently, Mel is currently being featured as consultant on a new TV show “The Pitt” starring Norah Wyle, coming soon to hit streaming service, MAX!
Mel received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and completed post-graduate residency at UCLA in Los Angeles.
He currently resides in Santa Barbara and is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine.
