About

Rebecca Howell, MD, specializes in treating voice and swallowing disorders and is a partner with Sid Khosla, MD at the UC Health Voice and Swallowing Center.

She was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society at the University of Michigan and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society at Drexel University College of Medicine. She was awarded the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society Resident Fellow Chapter while at George Washington University.

She has spent time working at both the NICHD during her early training years and then NIDCD during her residency in Washington, DC. She completed a nationally renowned fellowship in laryngology under Dr. Gregory Postma and Dr. Paul Weinberger in the Center for Voice, Airway and Swallowing Disorders in Augusta, GA. This is only one of two fellowships in the country with extensive training in dysphagia.

Dr. Howell will be performing in-office transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE) and was recruited to the department as the Director of the Swallowing Center. Her research interests include benign swallow conditions, especially Zenkers diverticulum and endoscopic esophageal dilation, botox, and cricopharyngeal myotomy.

She is also interested in swallowing outcomes in head and neck cancer survivors and establishing protocols for their care. She will be the first otolaryngologist in the area with a specialized clinic focused on swallowing disorders. Additionally, Dr. Howell will continue in a strong line of work already established in both voice and airway by the continued collaboration between Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati. She has unique training for in-office procedures including lasers in laryngology for the treatment of small laryngeal pre-cancerous lesions and recurrent papilloma. In-office biopsies and bronchoscopy can also be performed in selected patients. The use of in-office laser will be the first one in the area to treat adult patients.
