Dr. Troy Woodard

Dr. Troy D. Woodard is a rhinologist, skull base surgeon, and academic leader whose work is focused on improving the care of patients with complex sinus and skull base disorders while advancing the field of otolaryngology through research, education, and mentorship. His scholarly interests include the pathophysiology and treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, sinonasal inflammation, and complex rhinologic conditions, with particular attention to improving surgical outcomes and developing innovative, minimally invasive approaches to care. His research and clinical scholarship have contributed to the growing body of literature guiding modern endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery and improving patient safety and quality of care.

In addition to his research efforts, Dr. Woodard has been deeply involved in national leadership within the specialty. He served as President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, representing more than 14,000 physicians worldwide, and has held leadership roles in several national organizations dedicated to advancing education, mentorship, and collaboration in otolaryngology.

As Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University at Buffalo, Dr. Woodard is particularly committed to serving the patients and communities of Western New York. His vision is to build a department known for exceptional patient care, innovative research, and a strong culture of mentorship and collaboration. He is passionate about developing the next generation of physicians and creating opportunities for students, residents, and young faculty to grow as clinicians, scholars, and leaders.

Above all, Dr. Woodard believes that the most meaningful work in medicine happens through relationships with patients, trainees, colleagues, and the community and he is dedicated to strengthening those connections while helping the department continue to grow and thrive.
