About
Dr. Samuel Funt is a board-certified genitourinary medical oncologist and Assistant Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he specializes in treating genitourinary cancers, with a particular focus on bladder cancer, testicular cancer, and germ cell tumors. His clinical expertise includes immunotherapy, biomarker testing, clinical trials, and care for adolescents and young adults with cancer. Dr. Funt takes a multidisciplinary and patient-centered approach to treatment, working closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and nurses while emphasizing clear communication and helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options. He earned his medical degree from Emory University, completed his internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, and completed his medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Funt is actively involved in research aimed at improving treatments and outcomes for patients with genitourinary cancers. His work focuses on developing new therapies, identifying biological characteristics of tumors that may predict response or resistance to immunotherapy and other treatments, and finding ways to anticipate and reduce treatment-related side effects. He is also an investigator on clinical trials evaluating novel combination therapies for urothelial carcinoma and other advanced genitourinary cancers. Dr. Funt's research has been recognized with awards including a Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society, an MSK SPORE Career Enhancement Award, and a National Cancer Institute Paul Calabresi Career Development Award for Clinical Oncology.
