In honor of the 50th annual meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) in Nashville, let’s take it back to the beginning of IR and review how the field became what it is today. Guest host Dr. Andrew Niekamp (interventional radiologist at Miami Vascular) sits down with esteemed guest Dr. Barry Katzen, who began his training at the advent of IR, to discuss the origins and development of the field since its inception.

About

Dr. Andrew Scott Niekamp is a Vascular Interventional Radiologist with Radiology Associates of South Florida and joined the group in July of 2020. He currently practices with Miami Vascular Specialists.

A native of Ohio, Dr. Niekamp received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from The Ohio State University. He then went on to complete his residency training in diagnostic radiology at the University of Texas at Houston/M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology with Miami Vascular.

Dr. Niekamp’s interests are in the diagnosis, treatment and management of peripheral arterial disease, venous disease, aortic disease as well as hepatobiliary disease. He is active in clinical research and has published numerous papers encompassing many different aspects of interventional radiology. Dr. Niekamp is also an active member in the Society of Interventional Radiology and has given multiple research and educational podium presentations throughout both North America and Europe.
