About
Dr Rachael Forsythe is a practising vascular surgeon in the Edinburgh Vascular Unit in Scotland, UK. She has a broad clinical practice, including open and endovascular AAA repair, open revascularisation for chronic limb threatening ischaemia, carotid endarterectomy and treatment for superficial venous disease. She also has an academic interest and has published almost 70 papers (as of August 2023) relating to a wide range of topics but with particular focus on novel imaging techniques to detect AAA progression and the treatment of patients with peripheral artery disease and diabetic foot ulceration. She is a current PhD supervisor and PI for active research grants. She has also been involved in studies of bullying, undermining and harassment in the vascular workplace and has shared this work at various national and international conferences.
Dr Forsythe is past President of the Rouleaux Club (UK and Ireland vascular trainees’ association), past executive committee member of the Vascular & Endovascular Research Network (VERN), has served on a number of other national and international committees and has been involved in writing international guidelines for patients with diabetic foot ulcers and peripheral artery disease. She is an Associate Editor for British Journal of Surgery and an Editor for Journal of Vascular Surgery: Vascular Insights.
Dr Forsythe also enjoys international travel and knowledge exchange, having undertaken a funded travelling fellowship to Houston Methodist, Baylor College of Medicine and Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California in 2022.
