About
Dr. Taranto is a medical oncologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine (Hematology-Oncology) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She specializes in the treatment of breast cancer and is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care tailored to each patient's unique needs and treatment journey.
Her research focuses on improving how tumor markers are measured and used to guide therapy. Dr. Taranto is the lead investigator of the QuantifyHER study, a multi-site initiative evaluating new approaches to HER2 testing to better match patients with antibody-drug conjugate treatments. Her broader research interests include circulating tumor DNA and other biomarkers that help predict recurrence risk and treatment response. To further develop her expertise in clinical research, she completed a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology with a focus on clinical trial design and biomarker evaluation.
Dr. Taranto earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago, completed her residency training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and went on to complete a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to her clinical and research work, she is actively involved in medical education and science communication, serving as Editor-in-Chief of The Curbsiders Digest, where she helps translate emerging research into accessible clinical insights for healthcare professionals.
