About

Dr. Stacey Ishman says that, as a surgeon, problem-solving is baked into her day-to-day life. She has found this skill incredibly helpful as she has transitioned to leadership roles and thinks it has been fundamental to her passion for program building. She started her first clinical program as a young attending at Johns Hopkins and grew it to great success in a short period of time by collaborating with colleagues in multiple specialties and listening to their sage advice.
Since then, Dr. Ishman has grown a number of clinical programs that have been successful in terms of profit, publications, and research dollars. Most importantly, she has worked to make sure that there is time for joy and a shared passion. These concepts were primary as she hired the team and built the new Utilization Management group at CCHMC HealthVine. In their first year, the team served 130,000 children with Medicaid and were able to achieve NCQA accreditation in both Behavioral and Non-behavioral Health. The process was a shared journey with continuous learning and a focus on inclusion making sure that everyone felt empowered to optimize the system.
At the same time, her roles as a resident and medical student education helped her realize that she has a great passion for helping people understand where their passions lie. Since then, she has coached many residents, fellows and faculty and received the 2020 Mentorship award from the University of Cincinnati for this work. Dr. Ishman’s current focus is to help doctors focus their academic productivity (including papers, presentations, and organizational involvement) to more quickly get promoted and move into leadership roles without feeling overworked or stressed out.
Her areas of expertise include: problem solving, team building, project management, coaching, mentoring, career development, research, grants, issues management, writing and editing, employee engagement, project management, operations, epidemiology, outcomes research, and medical education.
