About
Dr. Matthew Bromwich is a distinguished pediatric surgeon. He completed his medical training at Queen’s University, followed by a surgical residency at the London Health Sciences Centre and a Fellowship at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre in pediatric airway reconstruction. He is an associate professor at University of Ottawa. He has published 19 papers and four book chapters on Otolaryngology and received 2.4 million in grants and funding.
Dr. Bromwich serves as Surgeon at CHEO and an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Ottawa. He is the physician lead for the CHEO innovation program 8-80. Dr. Bromwich is the inventor of several medical devices and holds 5 other medical patents. Other research endeavors include treatments for dizziness, mobile hearing testing, video endoscopy and surgical airway reconstruction. His research aims to democratize access to medical care by delivering innovative and inexpensive solutions. In particular, he is the inventor of the SHOEBOX audiometer which is a globally available hearing testing platform that has reached nearly 2 million people.
Dr. Bromwich has published >30 papers and four book chapters on Otolaryngology and has held more than 12.7 million dollars of grant, research and investment funds. In 2014 he won the national “TELUS Award for mHealth Innovation”. In 2016 he was nominated for the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year award and he and his team won the 2016 Interface Health Challenge for their work on mobile hearing testing and won the David E Mitchel prize at the 2018 Manning Innovation Awards.
