About

Dr. Muneeb Ahmed, MD is an interventional radiology doctor in Boston, Massachusetts and is affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Aga Khan Medical College in 2000. He then completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in vascular & interventional radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has been in practice for more than 20 years.

Dr. Ahmed specializes in minimally-invasive, image-guided treatment of cancer, treatment of diseases of the liver (including portal hypertension and bile duct diseases), treatment of vascular malformations, and interventional radiological treatment of musculoskeletal diseases.

Dr. Ahmed is actively involved in research and is an award-winning reviewer for leading journals in his specialty. He is currently the Director of the NIH-funded Minimally Invasive Tumor Therapy Lab in the Department of Radiology at BIDMC. His research interests include studying the tumor and tissue biology of image-guided targeted tumor therapies, and developing combination therapies with nanocarrier-loaded drug platforms. He has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed original research articles.

Bone cement: Serious adverse events, some with fatal outcome, associated with the use of bone cements for vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and sacroplasty include myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, cerebrovascular accident, pulmonary embolism and cardiac embolism. Although it is rare, some adverse events have been known to occur beyond one year post-operatively. Additional risks exist with the use of bone cement.
