About
B. Star Hampton, MD, FACOG, is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medical Science in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to becoming Senior Associate Dean, Dr. Hampton served as the Chief Education Officer for the Care New England Health System, and prior to that, the Interim Chair and Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University/Women & Infants Hospital. Dr. Hampton graduated from Williams College, received her Medical Degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery fellowship training at New York University School of Medicine. She joined the faculty at Brown Medical School in the fall of 2006. Dr. Hampton has a strong interest in clinical urogynecologic research, medical education, mentoring, and medical education research, authoring more than 60 manuscripts. Dr. Hampton currently serves as Immediate Past President of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, and President-Elect of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), in addition to holding current and past leadership roles in other national organizations such as the American Urogynecologic Society and the International Organization for Women and Development. She is a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Subspecialty Certification Examination. Dr. Hampton was Brown Medical School Clerkship Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology for nine years and subsequently Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has influenced Ob/Gyn medical education at the national level as past Chair of APGO’s Undergraduate Medical Education Committee. Dr. Hampton has won numerous teaching awards at both the local and national level. She holds an interest in global health and serves as the team leader for a group of physicians who travel annually to sub-Saharan Africa for obstetric fistula repair and education. She is a recognized leader and lectures nationally on topics of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Medical Education, and Global Health.
