About
Dr. Ashely Ross, MD, PhD, an Associate Professor of Urology and Clinical Director for the Polsky Urological Oncology Center at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, is an accomplished clinician, nationally recognized expert in prostate cancer, and surgeon-scientist specializing in prostate cancer, genomics, immunology, targeted therapies, and clinical trials. Prior to joining the Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Ross served as director of the Johns Hopkins Urology Prostate Cancer Program, the executive medical director of the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center, and an associate chair of the US Oncology Genitourinary Research Committee.
With a background in biochemistry and molecular biology, Dr. Ross obtained his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he also completed his Ph.D. training under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Desiderio, focusing on immunology and V(D)J recombination. He went on to complete his general surgery internship and Urology residency at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, where he eventually became an associate professor in Urology and Oncology.
Clinically, Dr. Ross performs prostate cancer screening, prostate biopsy (including MRI-fusion biopsy), active surveillance, robotic prostatectomy, open radical prostatectomy, and ablative therapies of the prostate. His research efforts focus on the development, testing and implementation of novel diagnostics and therapeutics with a goal of reducing the suffering from prostate cancer.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ross has made significant contributions to the field, publishing numerous articles and serving in editorial roles for esteemed journals. He has received several accolades, including the Johns Hopkins Clinical Scientist Award and Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. Since joining Northwestern University in 2020, Dr. Ross continues to actively engage in clinical practice, research, and academia, working towards clinically actionable discoveries and improved patient outcomes in prostate cancer.
