About
Jane T. Kurtzman, MD, is a urologic surgeon specializing in adult urologic reconstruction, gender-affirming surgery, and the management of complex urologic conditions caused by radiation injury, neurologic conditions, and congenital anomalies. She is recognized for her expertise in restoring function and improving quality of life for patients with reconstructive and gender-affirming needs.Her clinical approach emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered, and equitable care, helping each patient achieve outcomes that align with their personal goals and identity. Dr. Kurtzman's clinical expertise includes adult urologic trauma and reconstruction, gender-affirming surgery, radiation-related urologic injury, neurogenic bladder and other neurologic urologic conditions, and congenital urinary and genital anomalies.
Dr. Kurtzman earned her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, completed her urology residency at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, and went on to complete a fellowship in genitourinary injury and reconstruction at the University of Utah. Dr. Kurtzman is the Co-Founder and Director of GU-IMPACTS, a multi-institutional global health program that provides longitudinal subspecialty urology training in low-resource countries, including Rwanda and Cambodia. Her work focuses on advancing surgical education, collaboration, and access to reconstructive urology worldwide.
Dr. Kurtzman's research interests include urologic injury following radiation for pelvic cancers (prostate, gynecologic, anorectal), genitourinary tuberculosis, healthcare access, outcomes, and collaborations in low- and middle-income countries, and urologic care and health equity in American Indian and Alaska Native populations.
Outside of her clinical and academic work, Dr. Kurtzman enjoys hiking, skiing, and cooking. She and her husband love to travel internationally and spend time at home with their German Shorthaired Pointer.
