About Dr. Sammy Elsamra

Sammy Elsamra is an associate professor of surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. After graduating from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Dr Elsamra completed his residency at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. There he developed an interest in minimally invasive urologic surgery prompting him to complete a two-year fellowship in Endourology at the Smith Institute for Urology. Under the tutelage of many excellent mentors including Drs Arthur Smith and Louis Kavoussi, Dr Elsamra gained mastery in endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches to urologic oncology and reconstruction. Dr Elsamra prides himself on seeking creative solutions to complex urologic problems often utilizing a robotic approach (sometimes augmented with an endoscopic component). His passion for minimally invasive urology has led him to always seek a better way to approach common and uncommon cases. Dr Elsamra conducts complex multi-port and single-port robotic urologic surgery for cancer and upper tract reconstruction. He has conducted several firsts in his region and has played a vital role in the development of robotic surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr Elsamra has published extensively on minimally invasive urologic approaches and outcomes and has developed an academic focus on teaching minimally invasive urology to colleagues, residents, and students.
