About
Dr. Simone Thavaseelan, MD is an Associate Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University where she has been faculty since 2011. She received her medical education at Georgetown University Medical School, followed by residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She then completed a fellowship in Endourology/ Minimally Invasive Urology in 2011 at The Miriam Hospital.
Dr. Thavaseelan is the Section Chief of Urology at the Providence VA Medical Center as a half-time VA employee with a concurrent halftime position at Brown Urology Inc (BUI) as the Program Director of the residency since 2016 and subspecializes in Endourology.
Dr. Thavaseelan serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee at Brown/Rhode Island Hospital, the Board of Directors of BUI, the Advisory Board of Office of Women in Medicine & Science, as the Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Department of Surgery, and the Board of Directors of the Society of Women in Urology. She has recently served on the Board of the Society of Academic Urology as well as Vice Chair of the American Urological Association (AUA) Task Force on Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) in 2021, and serves as a member of the AUA D&I Committee.
