Dr. Shamit Desai

Dr. Shamit Desai, MD, is an image-guided surgeon and a founding member of Gotham Medical, where he focuses on providing a compassionate, minimally invasive path to recovery. He understands that navigating a medical diagnosis can be overwhelming, which is why he prioritizes "tailor-made" care—taking the time to listen to each patient’s unique story and using the most modern endovascular techniques to design a treatment plan specifically for their life. By using high-resolution imaging to perform precise, pinhole-sized interventions, Dr. Desai helps his patients avoid the risks and long recovery times often associated with traditional surgery. His practice is dedicated to treating a wide range of conditions, including superficial and deep venous disease, peripheral vascular disease, and chronic spine issues, as well as providing specialized care through targeted embolization for women’s and men’s health, musculoskeletal pain, and interventional oncology.


As an innovator committed to pushing the field of interventional radiology forward, Dr. Desai also founded a boutique consulting and independent contracting firm designed to evolve the way patient-facing care is delivered. His clinical expertise is backed by an elite education, including his medical degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, followed by a residency and a specialized fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at Northwestern University. Throughout his career—including his time leading pulmonary embolism response (PER) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) programs at two Chicagoland hospitals—he has remained dedicated to making life-changing treatments safer and more accessible.


In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Desai serves as a special advisor at the Chicago Medical School and a consultant for medical device innovation, ensuring that patient care continues to move toward gentler and more effective outcomes. He has been a valued member of the Society of Interventional Radiology Private Practice Advisory Committee since 2022, helping to shape the future of the specialty.
