Live from SGIM 2023 in Aurora, Colorado! We talk to a panel of Addiction Medicine specialists who recap their outstanding talk on all of the exciting developments in treating addiction. We review major policy changes, trends in drug overdose, outpatient screening for alcohol use, and all of the ways we might be using psychedelics to treat addiction. About
Dr. Stefan Kersetz is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine, and an attending physician at the Birmingham, Alabama VA Health Care System.
For over two decades Dr. Kersetz has delivered primary care and addiction care to persons who experience homelessness, addiction, and pain. He also leads and collaborates in VA- and NIH-funded research on care for vulnerable populations.
Dr. Kersetz homeless-focused research focuses on optimizing primary care service delivery and housing interventions.
Dr. Kersetz also has a special interest in understanding the care, safety and suicide risk of patients with long-term chronic pain. He co-hosts the podcast "On Becoming a Healer", which focuses on fostering healing relationships in medicine.
