About Dr. Ernie Ring

Ernest Ring, MD, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. He has served in a variety of positions: Chief of Interventional Radiology, Chief of Radiology Service at UCSF Mt. Zion Medical Center, Chief Medical Officer, and Associate Dean at Mt. Zion; Chief of San Francisco General Hospital Radiology Service and SFGH Vice-Chair, and Chief Medical Center Officer for UCSF Medical Center. Dr. Ring obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University Medical School, Detroit in 1969, followed by a one-year rotating internship at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He completed a four-year Diagnostic Radiology residency in 1974 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

From 1974-76 Dr. Ring worked jointly as Chief of Radiology Service at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, Ceiba, Puerto Rico, and as Clinical Instructor in Radiology at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. Ring retired in 2008, returning on recall to work in the Interventional Radiology Section at SFGH and UCSF Parnassus. In July 2012, Dr. Ring returned to the position of Chief of Radiology at UCSF Medical Center at Mt. Zion and the Ambulatory Care Clinic.

Dr. Ring is an active member of the Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology, the San Francisco Radiological Society, and the American College of Radiology. He has served professional publications such as Radiology, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, and the American Journal of Roentgenology. Dr. Ring has 201 published articles, 32 book chapters, and 1 book.
