About

Meredith Donahue is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Vanderbilt Urology specializing in Urologic Oncology. Prior to working at VUMC, Meredith graduated from Furman University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science and received her Master’s in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2018. After graduating, Meredith completed the Vanderbilt Urology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship from 2018-2019. Shortly thereafter, Meredith was hired to join the urology oncology team.

The Urology NP Fellowship is a 12-month program that rotates among all urologic sub-specialties in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. By gaining expertise in endourology, pelvic floor, and urologic oncology, the fellowship prepares nurse practitioners to be a well-experienced and well-rounded Advanced Practice Providers (APP). The fellowship also strongly supports nurse practitioners practicing in their full scope of practice, training candidates to independently perform common urologic procedures, such as cystoscopy. During the fellowship, Meredith completed a quality improvement project in APP onboarding and training. This has served as a useful template for APP onboarding at VUMC urology, and will be featured in the March 2022 American Urological Association News.

After completing the fellowship, Meredith’s passion in Urology clearly fell to Urologic Oncology. Meredith primarily cares for patients with malignancies of the kidney, bladder, and prostate. She manages a non-muscle invasive bladder cancer clinic, which involves instillation of bladder chemotherapy, as well managing its side effects, and advocating for cancer survivorship. Along with this, she closely co-manages advanced prostate cancer patients in the Comprehensive Prostate Cancer clinic. When counseling these patients, Meredith utilizes a compassionate, empathetic, and multidisciplinary approach. This clinical focus has dovetailed into a collaboration with VUMC Medical Oncology and the Hereditary Cancer clinics regarding the research and applications of genomics in prostate cancer.

Although Meredith commits herself to her professional development to provide patient centered care and further her own education, she enjoys spending time with friends and family in Nashville. She’s an avid Nashville sports fan, cheering on the Titans and Predators as much as she can. Meredith spends her free time in a balance of yoga and outdoor activities while exploring the expanding food scene in Nashville.
