About Dr. Pilar Bayona
Dr. Maria Del Pilar Bayona Molano MD, FSIR, is board-certified in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, and earned her certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Bayona Molano received her medical degree from National University of Colombia in Bogota and completed her Radiology residency training at Javeriana University. She then went on to complete her advanced training in Neuroradiology and Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Cleveland Clinic. She has led multiple national programs including teleradiology implementation for reaching populations in areas with severe limitations to healthcare access. For over 13 years Dr. Bayona Molano has worked in academic institutions in the US, directly supervising and teaching residents, fellows and helping junior staff as Interventional Radiology Faculty.
Dr. Bayona Molano has developed a strong relationship with the Oncology, Transplant surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology services throughout the years. She has specialized in Portal Hypertension, Venous diseases, and Pulmonary Embolectomy working in a multidisciplinary setting with Surgery and Medicine Departments. As her career evolved, she became the IR Medical Director at the Cleveland Clinic. This path led her to work with administrators, improving processes which include workflow and establishing dedicated services such as Interventional Oncology and a dedicated dialysis interventional center. She has participated in multicenter clinical trials.
She has held lectures in National and International conferences on topics that include Portal Hypertension and Interventional Oncology. She has been active as an educator having authored manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, two chapters in textbooks. She was a featured editor for JVIR and has participated in other journals such as the Journal of Cardiac Surgery, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, and Hepatology.
She is an active member of SIR and SIO and participates in multiple committees, having participated in the quality and statements for TIPS guidelines creation ACR- SIR committees. Dr. Bayona Molano, being a believer of globalization, she recently created JVIR Ibero-Americana, a group of very recognized interventional radiologists, to translate their abstracts to Spanish and Portuguese languages to make them available to the IR community worldwide.
