Laser atherectomy plays an important role in peripheral artery disease treatment. Recent clinical data, including the Pathfinder study, highlight the safety profile and sustained patency rates achieved with novel solid-state laser atherectomy devices, while practical guidance emphasizes maintaining an intraluminal position and optimizing laser settings to enhance procedural outcomes.
Atherectomy has become a pivotal technique utilized in the management of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), offering a versatile approach to plaque removal and vessel preparation. By using a range of devices tailored to specific lesion characteristics, atherectomy can improve the outcomes of subsequent treatments like balloon angioplasty and stenting.
The high-resolution imaging capabilities of Micro-CT are useful in studying calcium in peripheral artery disease (PAD). Dr. John Rundback's cadaveric study uses micro-CT to analyze medial calcium patterns and demonstrates the Auryon laser atherectomy's effectiveness in disrupting challenging calcium buildup.
