About Dr. Anthony Shanks

Anthony Shanks, MD, MS, MEd is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He holds board certifications in both OBGYN and MFM and has an interest and expertise in education and technology. Dr. Shanks serves as the Vice Chair of Education for the Department of OB/GYN and the Program Director for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Shanks serves on the APGO Board of Directors and is an advisor in the APGO Scholars and Leaders Program.

Dr. Shanks earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He went on to complete an OB/Gyn residency and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship, both at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He has received multiple teaching awards including the Trustees Teaching Award, Outstanding Clinical Teaching in OBGYN and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society at IU School of Medicine in 2022.

At his home institution, he serves as the Director of Career Mentoring, where he provides leadership for the design, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of the IU School of Medicine career mentoring services provided to students across all phases of the school’s curriculum.
